This is my recipe for a completely natural mascara that I've been using for the last 2-3 years. It's my favourite DIY recipe and I've been asked for it multiple times over the last few years so here it is! It costs around £0.50 - £1.00 (USD $0.64 - $1.28) to make 6 months worth. Plus it's better for your health and the environment. It also is super quick and barely takes any effort. You can get...

    Fantastic!!! but I think tea tree oil would tear up my eyes. Tea tree oil is almost similar to eucalyptus oil which has a minty-like effect, maybe one drop would be plenty since essential oils are very much concentrated.

    Isn’t it a little sketchy using pure tea tree oil on something going on your eyes? It’s such a strong minty oil I feel like it would really hurt if any of it got in

    Nice idea, but do UA-camrs actually use their zero-waste homemade products regularly? I wonder. Isn't it better if UA-camrs to start a petition to push the major cosmetic companies to mass-produce the mascara with the right formula in glass bottles or push them to incorporate recycling scheme? Why is this issue left to each consumer to take zero-waste responsibilities? Cosmetic companies have all the knowledge, technologies and machinery, and they can do it better.

    • @harmonyln7
      @harmonyln7 5 років тому

      I find it pretty easy when I have the motivation to make my own food. I've never been a great fan of cooking especially since it's normally just for me, but I'm somehow finding lately that I'm a bit more inclined to cook something. Maybe it's because I'm also trying to buy as much as I can without packaging and with choosing to travel rather than have a fixed abode, I find it of course cheaper to cook and make my own food than eat out. Sure I can freeze more for later, but air bnb places in the UK (at least the cheaper ones) are normally rooms in shared houses, so I try and be mindfil of the fact that it's their house. I haven't done any videos for ages but do have a blog. I'm thinking to get back into the youtube thing but make better videos. The thing I've noticed is that I only find shopping or eating out a pain if there are few options or if I'm trying to get ready-made or processed stuff. Then again I'm no fan of processed anything or microwave anything. I am one though who likes to know what ingredients are in what and how much things cost etc, so people find helping me with shopping the biggest pain in the world. Don't see why, because if anyone who can read print can just pick the thing up and read the information they want or don't want. Annoyingly I don't have enough vision to read print, so need to get someone to do the reading for me.@@NaturallyNomadic

    I love bars of soap and a few days ago got myself a little bar of shampoo. I got another bar of soap and a tin for the said soap and one for the shampoo, then later found my first bar of soap! Oh well they still last for ... ever so that's all right. It's hard to believe that a little round bar of shampoo is meant to last over 700 washes. Maybe it will though since I don't exactly wash my hair every day and have pretty short hair. I also love my bamboo toothbrush. I also got this really big 1 litre stainless-steel flask for hot or cold drinks among other things. I posted somewhere on my blog about the things I do or would like to do in terms of low-waste things (you'll have to look for the post though). If you want to take a look, feel free to visit harmonystravels.blogspot.com/

    I would really like to try making my own mascara or even buying one off Etsy first before investing in all the ingredients, however I read on one of the ZW fb groups I'm in that activated charcoal shouldn't go near your eyes. Do you know anything about this? Or have you read anything about the safety of it? xx

    • @NaturallyNomadic
      @NaturallyNomadic 5 років тому

      Amy Hamilton I’ve never heard this before but on a quick google search I’ve only come across one blog post which says it shouldn’t be used near eyes in case of irritation risk. I guess if there’s no irritation (I’ve got way less irritation and eye problems using this recipe than any shop bought mascara) then it should be ok? But if you’re worried I’d look into it more before trying. Thanks for bringing it up though :)

    I dunno about leaving the plastic packaging at the till. It seems more effective to mail the packaging back to the company rather than leave packaging at the till which will just add work and pressure to already overworked staff. All your points are great in this video but I really think leaving the plastic at the supermarket is slightly rude! And ineffective. Better to mail the company xx
